Associate Professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction
Dr. Lingguo Bu is associate professor of mathematics education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction with an extensive teaching and research background in K-12 STEM education and teacher development. Dr. Bu received his Ph.D. in mathematics education from Florida State University in 2008 and his MSc in mathematics and computer science from Texas State University in 2003. With his diverse STEM experiences, Dr. Bu has been collaborating with his colleagues in instructional technologies, mathematics, and sciences in promoting meaningful mathematics and science learning in K-12 and teacher education. He is committed to the integration of affordable learning technologies (e.g., GeoGebra, APP design, and 3D design) in K-12 mathematics education for meaningful mathematical experiences aligned with National and Common Core State Standards.
Dr. Bu enjoys working with children and their teachers in exploring the profound complexity and immense beauty of mathematics as well as the diverse ways of student engagement. Using either traditional tools such as origami or innovative technologies such as modeling and simulations, he seeks to bring alternative mathematical experiences to mathematics teaching and learning, building on the local needs and creativity of classroom teachers and their professional communities.
