Rules & Prizes
Overall, this competition presents an opportunity for K-12 students to learn a little more about dinosaurs, and Earth Science in general. We intend that educators will work with students in their classes and within their own curriculum to participate in this opportunity as they deem most appropriate to their own specific situations.
Any K-12 class may submit an entry. To allow all interested classes to participate, schools may submit multiple entries, but only one entry per class will be accepted.
Entries must include names for all three hatchlings.
Entries must be submitted by September 13th, 2019 using the entry form available at the link provided.
After the close of entries, submissions will be reviewed by Faculty from the Department of Geology at SIU who will select the finalists.
In the event of duplicate entries, only the first entry submitted will be considered.
Finalists will be put up for a vote of the SIU student body in the Fall semester of 2019 and the winning names announced as soon as possible thereafter.
In the unlikely event of a tie, the winner will be resolved by a coin toss, supervised by SIU faculty from the STEM center and the Department of Geology.
Prizes will be awarded based on the number of votes received from SIU students.
The class that proposes the names chosen by SIU’s student body will receive a $100 pizza party and $400.00 to be used at the discretion of the supervising school faculty member.
Second place getter will receive $300 to be used at the discretion of the supervising school faculty member.

All prizes are sponsored by sponsored by the SIUC STEM Education Research Center, the SIUC Department of Geology and the SIUC College of Science. All prizes will be awarded through the winning schools.
