Unlike traditional classroom tests, AMO measures how students think—not simply what they memorize.
Developed by experienced mathematics educators from Southern Illinois University and aligned with the U.S. Common Core State Standards, AMO encourages students to apply logical reasoning, creativity, and analytical thinking to solve real-world mathematical challenges.

Every student has the opportunity to participate, regardless of previous competition experience.
Competition Format
Schools administer the paper-based examination during the official competition window.
Testing Window
October 12 – November 13, 2026
Students in Grades 6–12 may also participate during the official on-campus testing event.

About the Organizers
The American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) is jointly organized by the Singapore International Mastery Contest Centre (SIMCC) and the STEM Education Research Center (SERC) at Southern Illinois University (SIU).
SIMCC is an internationally recognized organization dedicated to promoting academic excellence through global competitions and enrichment programs. SERC advances STEM education through innovative research, outreach, and educational initiatives that inspire the next generation of learners and problem-solvers.
Together, SIMCC and SERC provide students with a world-class mathematics competition that fosters critical thinking, academic excellence, and opportunities for international recognition.
